Black and Decker is a company that truly needs no introduction. If you have ever purchased a power tool or a piece of yard equipment, you know the brand. In fact, there is a pretty decent chance that you may have already used some of its products.
While power tools are where this company has gained a reputation for making good products, it is also pretty well known in the yard equipment community. Plenty of experience went into the manufacturing of the LSW221 leaf blower.
Today’s objective is to take a deep look at this piece of equipment. There are a few small things that should tell you a little about who will benefit from this blower, and who might not.
For example, given the price and simplicity of this tool, it is a good option for home owners looking to tidy up a medium to small property while sticking to a tighter budget.
Conversely, if you have a larger property, or if you happen to be a professional, you will want to look elsewhere.
Company: Black and Decker
Air Velocity Rating: 130 MPH
Weight: 4.72 pounds
Power Source: Battery
Battery Type: 20v lithium
The weight of a leaf blower is more important than you might think. While blowing leaves is not extremely labor-intensive, it does involve lots of moving around with a fairly bulky object.
If your equipment isn’t designed to be comfortable, it probably will leave you sore by the time you are done with your work.
Since this blower weighs only 4.72 pounds, you shouldn’t have any trouble moving around with it for however long it takes you to finish tidying up your property.
While the lightweight design does seem to come at the price of some power, users that don’t need the juice will probably be happy to make the concession.
Another great thing about this tool is that it will likely fit nicely with a lot of shoppers’ budgets.
While it is not responsible to list a concrete price (as this is subject to change very frequently), it is fair to say that the LSW221 is considerably more affordable than most big brand leaf blowers.
However, it is also more basic than many similar products that are currently available. Extra features are going to cost you money. If you can make do with a more basic unit, though, your wallet will thank you for it.
If you own other Black and Decker lithium battery products, you really are in luck here. Black and Decker uses an interchangeable battery system, so your tool will be able to accept the battery of any other Black and Decker tool that you have.
Unfortunately, the battery life on this product isn’t very impressive. We found that it lasts between 15 and 20 minutes, which may not allow you to finish an entire job in one go.
If you do have other Black and Decker 20v batteries, you may enjoy some relief from this otherwise frustrating problem.
Is this leaf blower noisy?
While just about every leaf blower will be noisy to a certain extent, this tool has been designed to run more quietly than most. If you live in a community that really values quiet, this blower should be a suitable option for you.
Does this blower mulch or vacuum?
No! This tool is for leaf-blowing only.
How long does it take to recharge the battery?
How long it takes to charge the battery can depend on a number of factors, including how much energy has been used, and how and where you are charging it.
Assuming the circumstances are standard, and that the battery is entirely drained, it may take up to 3 hours to fully charge it.
The user response to this tool is mostly positive, though enthusiasm is also relatively mild. Keep in mind that this is not exactly what one would consider a top-tier product.
Users that purchased the LSW221 knowing that it would be good for light to moderate work are mostly pleased.
Those that need a leaf blower to handle bigger or more challenging tasks are somewhat less enthused.
Many users who have other Black and Decker 20v products are enthusiastic about the battery swapping component.
People have also praised the light weight of the tool.
However, the response is not entirely positive.
Many people are not very thrilled that the tool runs for only 15 minutes, and the battery takes several hours to charge. If you don’t have multiple batteries, it can be difficult to finish a larger job in a reasonable time frame.
Despite some performance complaints, the majority of opinions on the tool are positive.
Is the LSW221 right for you? Black and Decker definitely has a particular sort of shopper in mind for this product. The affordable price and generally good performance for basic tasks makes it a good option for the standard buyer with a typical yard.
However, there are also a few issues that might be of concern for shoppers with more complex circumstances. Short battery life and a limited amount of power mean that this tool isn’t for professionals or for people with large properties.
Ultimately, only you can decide if this tool is right for you. We hope to have made the process of choosing a little simpler.
